is: The Phenomenon of the Facebook Status
300,000 Hits on Facebook Status Generator
August 16th, 2010It will not come as much of a surprise that the most popular page on the website is the Facebook Status Generator, a system that gives people the chance to ‘borrow’ any number of weird and wonderful status updates to pass of as their own, and contribute to the status generator with their own wacky thoughts. Well I am delighted to report that over the weekend the status generator achieved it’s 300,000th hit, which brings me great delight.
To celebrate this fact I have decided to offer 100% of the royalties that I receive from the book and website traffic to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
MSF is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance where needed regardless of race, religion, politics or sex to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.
So for everyone that has purchased the book, be safe in knowing that your purchase has gone to make life a little easier for those suffering in the most inhumane circumstances.
And for that, I am deeply grateful to you…
Independent Newspaper
April 20th, 2010Today there is a piece in the Irish Independent Newspaper looking at facebook from the perspective of ‘too much’, so of course they picked up a copy of ‘is’ and had a look at the ‘too much information’ chapter to see some of the crazy and disgusting things that some people may list as their status update. 200,000 Hits
March 28th, 2010Since it’s set up, this website has been doing fantastically well and has proved very popular, to the extent that last night it reached the 200,000 hits mark, which is phenomenal for a 5 month old website.
One of the most fasinating aspects about all of this is how it has appealed to people from nearly every country in the world, and recently it has been receiving hits from nowhere… which I believe to be some crazy person on a ship in the middle of nowhere. So hello mate, hope its nice down there in the Indian Ocean?
And to everyone else, thanks for the support, and I am glad that you enjoy the status generator so much.

Royalties to Victims Charity
December 18th, 2009Books to the Troops and Royalties to the Victims of Terrorism
I have just started a charity based on the book called ‘Books to the Troops and Royalties to the Victims of Terrorism’
Self explanatory really, I will send boxes of my book to the Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and I will donating the Royalties earned during the entire year of 2010 to Victims around the world that have suffered because of Terrorism since 9/11/2001. I have given all the royalties to date to different charities so I thought I would just concentrate on one charity for all of next year. This one will help people from all over the world, so please join this group and get the name of this very worthwhile cause out there.
Please click on this group to join and help us get to 911,911 members. Thank you. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=191773736241
Countrymix 106.8FM
December 18th, 2009I had the best time earlier this week when I popped in the Countrymix106.8FM Studios with Lynsey Dolan, who is now one of my favourite Radio DJ’s. We had a good old chat about Facebook Statuses and the world in general, which I thoroughly enjoyed and hope to repeat again some time soon. Also, Thanks must go to Karen Lawless for sorting everything out. Lynsey is on-air every weekday morning from 9am with a detailed look at what’s happening around the City and in your World. http://countrymix.ie/ I highly recommend it!
Eastcoast FM
December 16th, 2009Today I had a fantastic time with the Eastcoast FM crew and managed to get on the radio with Declan Meehan not once but twice. I also had a good look around at how the station is run, and what all the buttons and knobs are for. I would like to say a big Thank You to Joe, Claire, Declan, Laura and all the team out there, and wish them all a very successful 2010. 2,300 Hits: Henry
November 20th, 2009Mainly thanks to Thierry Henry’s handball in the Ireland v France World Cup Play-off, many people where searching for appropriate Status updates for to reflect their frustrations in their Facebook and Twitter accounts, which resulted in the website receiving exactly 2,300 hits in the 24 hours following the game.
1,000 Hits
November 5th, 2009Yesterday was the first time that this website had over 1,000 hits in a single day, which is a great achievement for a website that is not even three weeks old! The fantastic thing about all of this is that the hits came from all over the globe, and the site is increasingly receiving traffic from ever more exotic locations.
